April 22, 200917 yr Hi, Im in need of some advice please. Ive just replaced the tyres on my bike (Mich x11s) and i cannot get the reat to fully seal. Air is leaking from the spoke holes. there is enough pressre to pop the tyre on the rim, but the rim still leaks. I have put a new tubeless rimtape and new valve into the wheel. Is there anything i can do tho stop this? If not, are there any disadvantages of putting a tube in it? cheers max
April 22, 200917 yr 1 trick that sometimes works is a bead of silicon in the rim tape groove just before you seat the tape, this in effect works like a instant gasket. Other possible problem could be the valve stem nicking the rim tape during assembly though probably not the problem
April 22, 200917 yr I am probably going to anger a lot of people by saying this but I would just bang a tube in there. Not everybody has the time to spend hours taking tyres on and off, then off and on again etc etc whilst trying to achieve that perfect seal. I put a tube in my beta six months ago and have never looked back. I practice twice a week and compete fortnightly and still no punctures. Run tyre on between 3 and 4 psi dependant upon conditions. A tube in a tubeless tyre serves a different function to a tube in a tubed tyre and will behave differently.

April 22, 200917 yr A lot of people will tell you to be patient and keep feeding the rim tape into it's groves. Other's will tell you to use marine grade sealant. I've been patient, I've used sealant (Silkoflex) and my rear tyre still goes down. There really is a knack for getting it right, some have it, I certainly don't. My rear looses 1psi per 24 hours, through the spoke nipples. I live with it. Good luck
