4rt Clutch Noise

Featured Replies

When clutch is lever is pulled all the way in get a rattle noise from clutch. Otherwise clutch works fine. The clutch does not slip. Was wondering would it do this if plates are wore. The clutch is a mitani. When bike is cold it does not do it,but after it warms up it starts doing it. Any ideas?????

I think that this is common on the Montesa.

When I first had my Montesa I noticed the same noise. At the next trial I listened to every 4RT that I could and they all had the same noise to some degree. I decided that it's a good way of hearing if the bike is in neutral.

I also noticed that the Raga Gas Gas clutch is quite loud.

I do not think this normal I have 3 4rts and this one is only one to do this. It only happens when the clutch lever is pull on the way in.

mine did the plate noise thing with the mitani clutch plates, had the garage where the plates were fitted strip it back down, could not find any damage to case or basket. Has quietend down a bit now. I've also fitted a bigger clutch master cylynder, like the one fitted to 315, much better control and much smoother. Hope this helps

So was your clutch new when it did this. I guess it does not hurt anything. I thought it might be because plate might be wore a little. I also took apart and could not see anything wrong.

I had the standard cluch plates changed as the cluch was like a switch. I noted the wurring noise at first trial after the plates were done.. they have been in 12 months no problem as yet. bike performs well. Not really sure what causes the noise.
