hi guys i am new to trials and have bought a 2000 txt 280 that needs work first job is crank seal but the old owner has tried and damaged the thread in the flighwheel is there any way to get it off HELP !

That taper is a tight fit. Are you able to clean up the damaged thread? If not, there are not many ways to remove the flywheel as there is little room in the flywheel slots to fit puller arms. It may be the only thing you can do is to make the flywheel puller fit tightly into the damaged threads (use a lathe) and tack weld the puller to the flywheel boss in 2 or 3 places. Then use the puller by applying pressure to the unit and lightly smack the puller with a hammer to shock the taper loose. This should remove the flywheel and allow you to saw or turn off the tacked on puller. You can then view the damage better and determine if you need to turn out the original thread and make up a sleeve to bring the thread back to standard size.

I stripped my 2003 280txt Pro engine 3 years ago. I just got back to re-assembling it! Is the thread on the flywheel bolt, a left hand thread? I have a black M10 1.5 bolt and have cleaned up the thread (right hand) on it, but I can't get it started. Before I butcher into the flywheel shaft, I thought I would check if it's left hand thread!
