March 27, 201016 yr Hi all, I currently own a Sherco 290 on an 03, can someone pls tell me a good mix of oil and jungle juice, previous owner just "shot the oil in" cheers Jay
March 27, 201016 yr Use a good oil at 80:1 which is around 60mls per 5 litres, too much & you lean out the jetting & clog the muffler
April 4, 201016 yr 80:1 good synthetic oil like the manual says. Any more is just clogging your exhaust up.
April 4, 201016 yr 80:1 for a modern bike mixed with a modern synthetic oil. As above anything more than that will just clog stuff up.
April 4, 201016 yr Well that's three different pieces of advice. Probably best to stick to the manual. There is a massive difference between 60mls to 5L and 100mls to 5L.
April 4, 201016 yr Well that's three different pieces of advice.Probably best to stick to the manual. There is a massive difference between 60mls to 5L and 100mls to 5L. That difference really depends on if you use mineral oil (at 50:1) or synthetic (at 100:1). Many of us have been using synthetic oils somewhere between 80:1 and 100:1 for many many years so you can't go far wrong with that. Remember you are asking forum members for their opinion and everyone in the forum does their best to help......But if you don't trust the replies then what was the point of asking in the first place? Best of balance. Neo
April 4, 201016 yr Author decided to go with 100ml to 5L makes mixing it easyer and the bike runs spot on

Best of balance. Neo I agree one should play it safe, which is why I stick to 80:1 rather than going to 100:1, although I have done it before. I suppose that if every pro and expert rider here can run that ratio without fail, I can as well, although an occasional hard run down the road or up a mountain keeps some heat in the muff to keep things flowing. Worst thing one can do is add too much oil then putt about all day. One must understand just how the excess oil lingers in the motor and exhaust to gain full appreciation.
April 7, 201016 yr Also bear in mind the sherco exhaust isn't the easiest to clean out, i would be wary about using more oil than 80:1. This IS a safe ratio.
April 7, 201016 yr My bikes never let me down yet.. although I do tend to clean the bike out by opening the throttle up if I've spent some time just pottering a tight section in 1st gear
