New To Trials - Practice In Oxford/northants

Featured Replies

Hello all.

I'm new to this forum and to trials. Having ridden road bikes for years and then moved into trail riding and the odd enduro and (very) occasional motorcross I've decided to have a go at trials.

I did a days training with Steve Saunders on Saturday and learnt loads. I really enjoyed it.

I'm looking for somewhere to practice around the Oxfordshire/Northamptonshire area any suggestions?

Rgds,

Mark

Berkhamsted mcc have a good practice ground in Hertfordshire its not in oxford/northants but its worth the drive.

Hope you get some more replies markh

I'll be moving to northants myself in October..so I hope there is somewhere to practice. :)

there is normally more than one trials on every weekend of the year with out travelling for vast distances hence most people (it seams to me) ride events or practise unofficially in places they shouldn't be.....

Nigel, I do know exactly what you mean. Many farmers etc are happy for a couple of visits a year but don't want hords descending on them!

I see you're based in MK - I work in MK - what are the local clubs to MK?

I think the nearest club to me is Stratford?

Any advice about local venues/clubs is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

Nigel just abouts sums it up there.

The local club for Northants area is Nene Valley MCC. Look in T&MX for the next trial and come and have a go. Talk to fellow compettitors and you may get an invite to practice, some even have permission!!

We're the same round here. We've got quite a few places to practice, but none that we'd want to publish on the web really. People get vetted so to speak, before we'd let 'em know about the places. It only takes one idiot to lose the ground for everyone else. It's not a tight a*** thing, just protecting our own intersts and those of the land owners.

I certainly wouldn't publish the practice grounds on the web. Next thing, we get plastic off-roaders doing donuts round prime grazing land.

You've got to get involved with a club and the places will turn up.

Hi Dabster..

Where can I get the form??..I would be happy to join up right now.OK, I dont get back till October, but the minute I get back I wanna get started. Is it the Milton Buzzard club you mean/suggest?

I'll be living in Rushden..maybe only temporarily...but at least for 3 or 4 months.

Cheers for any help...PS. Hope you'll all teach me how to ride properly when I get back! :)

I live about 4 miles from Rushden at Irthlingborough. If you want to know anything about Nene Valley MCC which runs Trials at several locations within 20 mins of you, then pop into John Lee MC's in Higham Ferrers (the next town to Rushden). John and his wife are heavily involved with the club and can tell you anything you need to know. I doubt you'll leave the shop without him selling you something though!!!!

steve...

thanks a million.Saw that shop when we went house hunting in Rushden...will be straight in there when we arrive. Want to get started as soon as possible.

will e-mail you nearer the time too if you dont mind, and maybe we can go for a crash test practise. Good to know there's a few trials riders round there! :):(
