January 20, 200521 yr TY175 Went into Acklams @ Harrogate (Beta & Yamaha) to pick up some New Yam parts that I'd ordered. I'd requested a brake lever arm for the rear wheel back plate (a 434 TY250 or TY175 part) The original item from 20 years ago was a heavy cast steel item, that corroded etc and weighed a proverbial ton in comparison to today's item. For the 21st Century Yamaha have produced an identically shaped offset rear brake lever in guess.........Cast ALUMINIUM. Beautifully crafted and shaped, plus in comparison to the crappy steel item.......it's a light as a feather. Why......... oh why didn't they make items like this in the heyday of Twinshock TY's.............if more of the items were crafted in alloy like these front & rear brake plate levers, sidestand, fork brace (with lightweight m/guard), chainguard, rear brake pedal.............then the bike would have been a whole lot lighter. Perhaps another case of .................if we knew then...........what we know now.............as they say hindsight's a wonderful thing!!!!!!
January 20, 200521 yr I have a 75 Ty 175 and it has aluminum brake arms front and rear. This is the the fourth one I have had and all they have been aluminum, I looked up the part # 434-25355-01-0o and it looks identical to the one on my bike
January 21, 200521 yr TY175Why......... oh why didn't they make items like this in the heyday of Twinshock TY's Some model TY250s and TY175s twinshocks had steel brake arms, some had aluminium. I always thought it strange that my TY250D with its special light rims (compared with A and B model TY rims), was the only one I had seen that has the heavy steel brake actuating arms! I haven't seen a twinshock TY made before 1977 with the steel arms so assume that changing to steel was a cost saving measure brought in when sales were slowing down.

Forgot to say that if you had ordered a 493 TY250 or 1N4 TY175 brake arm, you would have got a steel one.
