August 3, 201016 yr Hi all, just tried a search for any info on replacing the headstock bearings on my 98 315r,just found bearing numbers,so if anyone can point me in the right direction if this topics been covered already thanks,if not ive changed bearings before on road bikes, but if anyone knows some good advice or ways of doing it on the montesa id be very gratefull. Thanks very much. Regards Andy
August 3, 201016 yr I did it not so long ago, most of it was simple enough. The only bit I struggled with was putting the new bearing on the steering stem. I took it to my local bike shop and they used their 'special tool' to hammer it on, took them 2 minutes.
August 5, 201016 yr Author Thanks very much for the reply, would the special tool be similar to a bearing size socket? Regards Andy.
August 6, 201016 yr I can't find a picture of it anywhere - it was a Motion Pro stem bearing driver I think. Essentially a long tube which he used to hammer the bottom bearing into place with. A bit like a fork seal driver. Edit: Found a pic of a guy using a pipe. cowboy style Edited August 6, 201016 yr by tt5th
