September 30, 201015 yr Rev3 05 270. Went out on it, after 5 minutes the clutch sounded like it was slipping all over the place, then shuddered to a halt, and the kick start wouldn't crank. Any ideas folks ?
September 30, 201015 yr why do you think it was the clutch slipping ? just need to know what the noise was like or symptomns ?
September 30, 201015 yr Author hmm, the noise, was like the plates were spinning like hell and making a a kinda whirring if that makes any sense, then the kick start wouldn't crank
September 30, 201015 yr how do you mean it wont crank? is kickstart solid and wont move down or just slips straight down. If its solid then something as locked up!
October 1, 201015 yr Solid as in won't go down. Ideas as to what would have locked up ? The Motor, perhaps!
October 1, 201015 yr You'le have to take the clutch cover off to get any idea. Might be the kick start gear was trying to engage while the motor was running ?
October 2, 201015 yr Author Had the clutch cover off today but never really seen too much, I'm guessing the whole clutch/water punp and kick start cover will be the next thing to take off ?
October 2, 201015 yr Hi Whip the barrel off and check to see if the con rod moves on the shaft, the noise may have been the main bearing siezing up and the piston taking lumps out of the cyclinder wall, which is one possibility for the kickstart not moving, with most other failures you get some sort of movement in the kick start but not with the mains. If it is take the engine out stick it in a box and post it to lampkins and you will have it back in a week minus around
October 3, 201015 yr would lampkins really change the main bearings for £100 ? I would give them a call and check first..... Edited October 3, 201015 yr by MIKEE
October 4, 201015 yr would lampkins really change the main bearings for £100 ? best to call and ask but payed 98 plus postage but that was 18 months - 2 years ago. Iam talking about sending only the shaft all other work by self Its a precision job not a difficult job. I`m confusing the issue here, by main bearing I mean the big end bearing, always been main bearing to me and what everyone else refers to as mains is crankshaft bearings to me sorry for confusion. crankshaft bearings don`t sieze, they are normally roller or needle so collapse rather than sieze Whiz Edited October 4, 201015 yr by whiz
October 4, 201015 yr The above link is HERE if you hadn't sussed it? Pretty good as a guide but I reckon Thedbf may need a more 'hands on' helper if he can find one? Good tip for the future - if somethings starts to sound wrong, kill the engine quickly! It could save you a few quid? GJ
