February 14, 201115 yr I thought the silencer looked a bit strange on a 240 on ebay recently and just put it down to a home made job but having just come across this video im not so sure. Can anyone shed any light on this ? Has some lucky person got themselves an ex works bike ? What inside that extra bit ? Look at about the 5.5 min mark
February 14, 201115 yr Hi Blocky, was quite a common mod in the day. 240 frt box, Bultaco rear box. There is a guy on here inn Zomerset 8Ask greeves) who knew the Fantic man carey and knew also why they did it or what they got. 100s were modded, I got one from italy and it wasnt better than standard or a WES IMO
February 14, 201115 yr I Was gonna say that! From a very hazy memory we used to think it smoothed the power delivery, i.e just took the punch out of the bottom end without chocking it when revving
February 14, 201115 yr Thats correct, I had a 240 that I put a bultaco rear box on the back half of the fantic exhaust. Softer power and better grip on the southern mud, or so we persuaded ourselves.
February 14, 201115 yr I always think copying the works exhaust only may not be the best route. I doubt a standard 240 had too much grunt for someone like John Lampkin which makes me think they probably had tuned up the engine first then fitted the back box. Steve Robson did a few conversions in the North East so it could be anyones old bike really.
