I've got an entry for the Cleveland Trial, and as this includes public roads, would it be advisable to work out how to get the lights wired back onto my bike? What do most other folks do? It is road reg, taxed and insured. Will there be any scrutineering issues if no lights?

Dude, you don't need lights (not unless the trial is in the dark )

You would probably be more ilegal if you did get the front light working, as if you have lights on a bike they must all work and there must be a working brake light as well.

Take all the lights off, you get a 'daytime MOT' and you don't need a brake light either.

Make sure your electric (or battery) horn is working though

Don't want to be too obsessional about this but equally don't want to turn up and be told can't ride cos no lights etc....

I think I'm right in saying that the scrutineers are not supposed to check for this sort of thing.

I'm not sure what the full list is, but I think if they check the ball ends on levers, and make sure there's nothing falling off the bike that's about as far as they'll go.

I got the feeling it was something to do with them certifying your bike as roadworthy when they don't have the authority to (MOT centre).

The only place I've been where they did much more than that was the IoM, and that was only slightly more. They checked both brakes, and chain guard. Asked if my horn worked. I said it did, but he'd have to run along side at 30 mph. He chuckled and gave me my sticker

They do check the bikes over at the Cleveland , not for full road legality but they always check and want to see the road tax,and no.board.

As in my opinion they should , also with more and more of the road based trials becoming oversubsribed (SSDTincluded) i would like to see em make sure that folks hold a valid drivers liscence also. No bike test , no ride !! Why should a few go to the bother of being (or making the effort) legal when ythe majority dont bother!!

Not many ally drivers will have not passed their driving test!!

And tyres, tyre pressure, helmets, registration plates etc etc Will you be putting the mirrors and indicators, that normally come with Monts on your bike?
