I had my rev-3 dismantled for a few weeks while fix / upgrading/ replacing a few parts. One item I replaced was the chain tensioner spring. After cleaning, lubing and replacing the chain and the new tensioner I adjusted according to the manual. It said to adjust to 20mm between the top of the adjuster and the swing arm. Ok, so I did that. Now the wheel drags more than before. Keep in mind my adjuster was way out of whack before and thus my chain was way loose.

Is this drag normal?

I cannot freely spin the wheel while the bike is sitting on a stand.

Have you put the wheel spacers in the right way round?

Are the cam adjusters both the same (keep the wheel true)

Pull the brake pads out and see if that cures it

Wheel spacers and cam adjusters are correct. After reviewing your post I pulled the whole caliper off. It still dragged. I then manuelly held the chain tensioner down, ( to take tension off). The wheel then spun freely.

Could it be just becouse it is a new spring? When adjusted to the books spec, it is really tought.

Any more ideas, or is this normal? If I give it a good spin it freely makes about 3/4 of a turn. With the chain tensioner held down it does about three.

I don`t think you can expect the wheel to spin freely with the chain on and adjusted if you consider that without the chain on you are only spinning the wheel and with the chain on you are spinning the wheel, chain and shaft in the gearbox along with the friction within the chain tensioner and gearbox. I may be wrong but I would think that eveything is ok if I am wrong then i have the same problem!!

This might sound daft, but it should spin better forwards rather than backwards if it's an old chain tensioner as that's the way the rubbers will have been worn.

To be honest I wouldn't be worried about this if it has only started doing this after getting a new spring. My bike used to do this until i replaced the chain tensioner block, It could be that your chain tensioner block is worn through to the metal and isn't flowing smoothly. Just keep an eye on the rubber block, if the new spring is too strong it may wear too quickly.

I will keep an eye on that block for wear. Currently it is fine. And yes I am spininning it forwards. Also, I may have expained poorly, but it spins real nice by just taking pressure off of the tensioner and leaving the chain on. Maybe this is normal. Has anyone spun thear wheel latly?

dont adust the tensioner to the book mines never 20mm off. just adust it so the chains got a tiny bit of slack on. tensioner will probably be right in.

James..if the chain only had a TINY bit of slack on....surely that would make the tensioner sit further from the swingarm...ie more than 20mm

Interesting topic though this 'cause mine never tends to spin very freely, and yet when I've watched the paddock pics in the vids, I've seen theirs spinning VERY freely...with chain and everything attatched.

i backed her off a notch and it spins much better now. the measurement is now 14mm. It does have room to move further in as well. so much for trying to do something "by the book".
