June 13, 201115 yr folks a somewhat silly question - My dad and i bought bikes within a week or each other. he got a 99 tx270 and i bought a 97 jtx250 (gas gas). He has been having trouble with the bike going through plugs - and the guy he bought it happened to he was using leaded petrol in the mixture. For my 97 tjx250 bike - should i be using leaded or unleaded fuel when mixing up the 2 stoke mix? thanks, Richard
June 13, 201115 yr There's very little difference. A lot of money was made installing hardened valve seats, etc. when lead went out, and it turned out to be for nothing. If there's anything you should want out of your gas, it's alcohol.

June 13, 201115 yr Maybe race or aviation fuel still has lead. Lead deposits were grey/brown, dry and lumpy. If you have wet, black plugs, you have a different problem.
June 13, 201115 yr You can still get leaded 4 star in the UK, it's not widely available but most towns/cities will probably have a supplier. It was kept on because of classic cars and bikes. Trials bikes will run fine on either so no point in paying the added cost of 4 star, probably knocking on the door of

June 17, 201115 yr I always use super unleaded for my bike and it runs sweat. Aint you supposed to run a min ron of 98?
