After a longish period of time without riding my Beta rev3 250, due to the lack of time over the summer, the bike's engine doesn't seem too happy about running. My first guess would be some of the oil that might have got deposited inside the crankcase (as petrol goes bad after a while).

When I ride it, there seems to be a lot of smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe, and when i come to turn it off, it dies down (normal) and then backfires.

Any suggestions to solving this problem are welcome. Thanks
