not really the end of the world if the casing is rotton as £80 fixes it . i wouldnt walk away from an otherwise good bike just for the sake of the casing

I'm just asking for a friend. Is the state of Beta quality control really that embarassing?

build quality and trials bikes don't really go hand in hand unless you get a 4rt, that should set hares running!

I have an 03 200 Rev 3 with alloy case with no problems But my friend has a later 08 with a magnesium case and it leaked under the waterpump hose There is a coolant just designed to prevent this problem

Use gloss paint as coolant. That way it will seal up any leaks as you go.

Lookin for a secondhand bike between £1500 and £2000 for a friend. Havent decided what yet but can anyone recall which is the first year rev 3 not too have the corrosion problem caused by the coolant ?

I think the question may need to be inverted; i.e. what is the latest year of Rev3 not to have this problem. I too replaced a case on a 2008 bike which was the last of the Rev3s before the Evo was introduced in 2009.

He repaired the case with a metal bond stuff The other fix was to use the early alloy case if they are still available

Use propylene glycol based premixed coolant like Engine Ice or Silcolene Pro-Cool and there is no problem. Tap water is the devil's coolant! I'm still curious where the magnesium that is being leetched away from the cases is being deposited.

I think you'll find Beta puts the kick start on the proper side as it's better. Beta=Better!
