Montesa200 Help Needed

Featured Replies

Hi putting back a 200 engine and I cannot work out how spring goes on gear selector shaft any help much appreciated or even a picture before hammer gets taken to it damn bikes

said you would have fun ,,its hard to describe but ill have a go ,, with the selector out in your hand the spring goes on both legs down to the end the legs go either side of a metal tab without crossing each other probably spreading the legs apart , then when you slide it in ( this sounds like its from a porn mag) the long bolt that pertrudes the inner casing fits inbetween the spring so when the shifter is moved up or down the spring returns it to its center position ,, remeber to align the dots up on toothed arm and cog ,, also check clearence on all parts when fitting the circlip on left side also fit a washer taking up any slack ,clip needs to seat well and be tight fit

Cheers my problem is the part were spring ends go on I'm not sure if its bent as if you look at parts pictures its like 90 degree angle were this one seems to be bent round to right a bit and that's why I think spring just comes off

Another one is the dots that need to be lined up on arm and cog would that be in neutral

i had exactly the same problem recently. make a small tab from mild steel and weld it on. I welded mine with the selector in place.( Needs a steady hand) make sure you cover the rest of the internals though. think this photo will help. Bit untidy, but theres no way i was gonna get my grinder in there! Don't know why my photos are enormous!?
