Clutch Bleeding

Featured Replies

Hey guys, having massive problems bleeding my clutch. For a feeling the master cylinder is dead but looking at the cost of a new one I hope someone has a suggestion for me..

I have no lever at all, just soft and floppy. I have tried back bleeding with no luck, the first syringe blew bubbles in the reservoir which was obviously good but after that nothing is happening! The syringe just blows off the pipe as there is too much pressure.

Does it sound like the master cylinder is blocked? Worth trying to unblock it? The hose is clear and its a new banjo/bleed nipple.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

I assume you have adjusters on the lever, make sure the adjuster is not pushing the piston into the master

This would close the return port and you would not be able to back bleed, give it some free play so the piston can come all the way out

Also, try bleeding it at the banjo on the master, the master does not displace much fluid so it's not likely to push a bubble downhill to the bleeder on the slave cyl

Even after you get a little pressure the clutch springs will push the fluid back through the system when you crack the bolt

It sounds like you have air right in the master and that's why you have no lever, keep burping that banjo and tap the line and master with something to dislodge the bubble

Gave up in the end, even with the hose off I couldn't get a dribble out of the master, I took the lever off and all the inside is bent up!

Are these fairly universal?

Would an eBay £60 Chavvy annodized one do the job?

Probably best rebuilding it. I think you can get an ajp rebuild kit fairly cheap.

Phone up your nearest bike shop they will probably be able to source one for you.

Its not the standard set up I don't think.

I have found a new AJP set up for £70 from trials and tribulations
