I have found a Fantic 240 that is being sold (212cc). It seems to be in good working order, and well kept in a dry garage (though definitely not in condition for showing!)

I have never purchased a trials bike before and so want to check that I am not paying over the odds, or paying for rubbish!

The seller is asking £1350. I understand that the twin shock pushes the price up, but is this too much to pay?

a 240 that is all there and runs is worth that kind of money .only you know whether that is how much you want to spend.. waiting might get you one for a hundred quid less equally it may mean you having to pay a couple of hundred more..

get it and ride it , It won't depreciate or get any cheaper ...
