Cylinder Head Temp? Overheating?

Featured Replies

How hot is the cylinder meant to be when the bike has been running for a while? I was fiddling with the carb for around 30 mins in the garage and when i touched the cylinder head it was so hot it would burn your hand. I could only touch it for around 2 sec. Could it be the Stator or CDI? The fan was working fine, it turned on near the end. Also the "Put Put Put" seemed to disappear by the end as if the idle increased by its self.

Whilst not certain of the Sherco, engine fans normally cut in at a water temperature around 90 - 95 degrees.

If we assume that there is a temperature differential from the inside to the outside of the cyl head of 5 to 10 degrees.

Then yes, this sounds reasonably normal to me.

More to the point though... have you had a problem when actually riding the bike?

If you were adjusting idle mixture (??) then its possible that if set slightly weak, the tick over would rise slightly at higher temps.

Careful that you're not looking for a problem that doesn't exist.

OK thanks, and no the bike runs great, was just worried about the speed in which it became hot. I run a 33 pilot 118 main and turned the idle mixture from 3 to 3.5 when adjusting it there, so shouldn't be lean now.

LOL Cope

Our pain point is about 48c

No where near the operating temp of an engine so our flesh is a very poor judge of hot/cold

Yes, that is a bit funny! I figure 2 seconds about right for near 100C ! Try that on the pipe and see what you get! One may leave personal identification on it as your fingerprints leave your fingers!

You got "spit test"! If the spit on the finger sizzles, do not wait the additional second to find out!
