Two Pipes On Carburettor

on my tr34 there are 2 pipes blanked off on the carb it looks like there should be two pipes going to the crankcase one at the side of the flywheel housing the other in the centre of the crankcase ,what are they for and would they be better connected or left blanked off

    Thanks for the info looks like i had better connect them back up although i dont know why someone has disconnected them in the first place
