Hello,

Just fitted a new piston and springs to my clutch master cylinder but i cant seem to be able to bleed the system. I tried bleeding from the bottom up but can only get fluid as far as the point where the hose screws into the master cylinder.

Can anyone advise if i need to prime the master cylinder and if so how do i do this. I tried putting fluid into the master cylinder and bleeding from the top down but nothing happens when i pump the lever.

Any help/advice is appreciated.

Unscrew the adjustment bolt all the way. Sounds like it`s not returning enough.

If the piston travels all the way back to the stop AND the vent to the reservoir isnt clogged, you will see a burp of fluid (fluid and air if not bled) if you take the reservoir cap off. be careful as it will splash you in the eye if you release the lever fast and its working right! You can watch the burp to see if it has any large air bubbles in it. You should be able to bleed the system just by pumping the lever if the vent is hole uncovered properly (why lineaway wanted you to move the adj screw all the way out) Also - if there has been air in the system, put an inner tube around the lever holding the clutch in over night to help the mirco bubbles escape. Re-pump in the morning and your all set.

cheers laser1, I think i,ve discovered the problem. Fluid does not seem to be able to move between the reservoir and chamber where the piston slides. Ant ideas how best to unblock it. Also what is the piston stop.

There is a small hole that feeds to the piston, sounds like it may be blocked. Maybe a small wire. I usually pull a wire from my wire brush.

The snap ring is the stop. Heres a diagram to better explain from the GGUSA site.

thanks Lineaway and Laser1. I looked at the diagram and it shows that the hole passage hole is a simple passage from the resevoir to the chamber. I tried pushing a small needle through the hole but the needle just wouldnt push through. It seems the passage hole is not a direct vertical passage from the resevoir to the chamber. Do some of these passage holes turn to enter the chamber at an angle or further along the chamber towards where the hose attaches?
