November 23, 201312 yr So, I bought some GRO Oil in the Summer and have finally run out of what I was using before... As best I can see GRO is colourless and odourless... So, once I've mixed it into one of my two identical jerry cans, its impossible for me to determine which one is pre-mixed and which is just petrol... Previously (with Putolene), I could just pour a little into a mixing pot and see the blue colour from the oil. Anyone else have this problem? Aside from the obvious of being disciplined and marking the jerry cans etc, I wondered if there were anything I could do to the oil (something simple like food colouring) that will make it detectable without destroying my bike? It seems a shame to just not use it and I'm sure I can't be the only one with the problem? Ta.
November 23, 201312 yr when the can is empty put the correct amount of oil in it then you will never have just petrol in a can
November 23, 201312 yr Disiplin, disiplin, disiplin, and the routine nelly1 describes. Until that. if youre not sure, use the gas on the lawn mover or something other 4 stroke remedy. -Jan
November 23, 201312 yr Marked or not marked... Without the routine its only a matter of time before you face the question: "Did I or did I not put oil in this can??" Been there myself... several times Only 100% solution. NEVER put gasolin in that can without puting oil in FIRST -Jan
November 23, 201312 yr I started with this system over 20 years ago and its never failed me yet. I've got 2 small pieces of plastic (with a hole big enough to fit over the neck of the fuel container; the fuel nozzle and cap locks it down), one green and one red, glued them together. On the green I have 'mixed' and on the red I have 'not mixed' (burnt into the plastic with a soldering iron). so when I have straight fuel I turn the label over and it says 'not mixed'. when I have an empty container I turn it over on 'mixed' and have oil in it and all I need to do is put fuel in it. so simple. regards, Wakka
November 24, 201312 yr Author Cheers guys... Assumed this would come down to discipline... Never a good point for me as I generally try not to wake up until half way round the first lap.. Must try harder.
