Hey everyone. I was just wondering if anyone could help me by telling me what fuel/oil ratio i should be using. I'm only new to trials and when I bought it I filled up a drum with the right mixture and have since forgotten how much oil goes in. I have a 2000 290 and am using motul premix. Also should I use the premium unleaded or regular as I've heard some stories that shell optimax and caltex vortex can be bad for bikes.

ultimax is the best petrol you can buy sherco recomends 2%premix =50:1 but i run mine at 66:1 with ipone oil. and sometimes a bit richer depending on how long the road sections are.

MOst Sherco's (including my Son's) have a sticker on the frame just behind the yoke stating that 98 RON fuel should be used. That is Optimax. Q8 sell 98 RON also but such as BP ultimate and Esso Supreme are 97 RON. I have heard that some Tesco's sell 99 RON fuel but haven't come across it yet. If you really want to push the boat out then check out REAL leaded 4-Star at 99 RON available from a few stations. (Comes from a legal requirement to allow 1% of fuel sales to be leaded for Veteran and Vintage cars and bikes).

Hey S.E.L. you mentioned you were using Motul.

I was a motul 800 user at a 100/1 with Premium Unleaded for a number of years and was a slow learner in finding it to be a poor choice in a trials engine.

Never had any trouble with the motor but found it gummed it (the motor)and the exhaust very soon even on new machines.

Spark plugs were replaced much more often as well.

I think the Motul is more suited to the much higher reving engines which run at consistantly higher temperatures .

Have been using Motorex 2T Speedmix and the difference over Motul is far superior.You can get it readily from the Sherco Aust importer...hes not hard to find!

What about Opti2 at 80:1 ?? It comes highly recommended around here.

I run Putoline at 50:1 and it seems a bit rich. Would anyone recommend a different ratio?

Just about everyone would.

i run different mixtures depending i where i ride 70 to 1 usually and 50 to 1 with big steps/hills etc

IMHO You can't beat Mobil 1 2T. Recommended for use up to 100:1. I use about 80:1 and never find any build up of fouling. Mobil products are available at most good retailers.

So If I went to 80:1 with Putoline I wouldn't have any problems?

maybe a bit late but in New zealand I use Aviation fuel leaded and 80/1 motul 600 ,tried putaline but in two bikes i owned it caused me more problems and fouled plugs than i want to remember.

Plus the markers learn't a whole new language on those days ,as it cost me two trials place finishes.

We are just getting 98 unleadedhere now,but yet to try it.

Running my bike at 70:1 I had problems with the spark plug overheating and stopping working. This was a NGK platinum plug. When the bike cooled down it was okay. Replaced the plug with a standard NGK and finished the trial.

Would the running the bike at 70:1 make it run hotter?

Not significantly i'd thought, more likely lack of looking after the carb.

I took off the carb and it didn't have any dirt in it. Even remembered to check the filter where the fuel enters, again it was clean.
