Is This Too Tight

Featured Replies

Way too tight.

I think 10mm clearance is plenty

Hi !

I usually work on 0.5 to 0.75 of an inch up and down play in the middle of the upper chain run.

Another check is you should be able to slide your finger in between the chain block and the bottom of the swingarm.

You should be ok with this !

Use a ratchet strap from the s/arm over the seat (or a big mate) to get the arm in line with the s/arm pivot and front sprocket, and then check the tension so it's just slack, since this will be the tightest you need it.

looking at the picture the gap between your adjuster and the lug on the swing arm shouldn't be there, it looks as if the adjuster has turned with the nut.

Your snail cam should be up against the lug of swinging arm as pointed out above ^^^^^^

Both snail cams on either side of the swingarm need to be adjusted equally too. This enures your wheel remains straight. I would work on around 35mm of freeplay in the chain (auto tensioner removed).
