Hey Montesa riders out there.

Can you please tell me what your ninth digit VIN number is and from what country you are from?

Mine (2014 Repsol) is a number eight and I am in the USA. I was told that the ninth digit states

what country it is approved in ????

Are you sure you mean the ninth, as the eighth is C and the ninth is an x on mine in the uk and the UK bikes are definitely different to any other country concerning homologation (no road kit). Yours was an import wasn't it?

From what I have been lead to believe the ninth digit VIN number represents the country that it is has complied with in the way of emissions etc. My ninth digit is an 8.

I think the 8 means you "ain't" gettin a Green Sticker

In the 17 digit serial number format the 9 digit is a check digit used to verify the VIN.

If a specific calculation using the check digit does not match then there is a mistake in the VIN.

The country of origin is identified in the first two digits with VS - VW being used for Spain.

Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_identification_number for a complete description.

The Wikipedia VIN number info did not make any sense with respect to my Montesa.

I did some digging around and got this from a good friend who works at Honda.

This makes more sense.

If it is a USA spec bike, the 9th digit will be a check digit, as per nh014 post.

The Montesa VIN PDF in post #7 also shows digit 9 as the check sum digit.
