Hi,

Recently purchased a 2004 Txt Pro 249.

My son has managed to shear the engagement gear on the kickstart.

Contacted Gas Gas and they have sent up a new gear but my old gear was the quadrant style and the new one sent is the full circumference style.

Are they compatible?

I did go online and ordered by the part number as per the Gas Gas manual, so not sure if this is an upgraded version?

I believe all the Pro engines use the Quadrant Engagement gear.

No the full circumference type wont fit the Pro.http://www.trialspartsusa.com/manuals/depiecepro2004.pdf but you should also check the rear of the idler gear for damage.The part no in the manual shows for the kickstart quadrant, mt280226002

It would seem as though GasGas PRO kickstarting gears have some issues.

Proper starting technique will generally alleviate the problem.

Do not "stab" at the kickstart.

Take up the slack in the kicker slowly with your foot and then use a firm, swift downward kick.

Some do not recommend this: My kicker has been moved forward one spline on the shaft. This allows just a little more spin for easier starting. I am the second owner and the first owner had done this starting when new in 2003. No problems as of yet to be attributed to moving the kicker forward.
