October 12, 201411 yr Hola, While we are on the subject is Toni Bou - Toni Boo or Toni Bow ? And is the commentator on Trials TV correct when he says Alber Cabestan not Albert Cabestany ? Catalan pronunciation perhaps ? I've heard several Spanish commentators say Toni Bow. And this is how we, in the low country's, pronounce Ossa: It sounds like bOSSA nova, the music term

October 17, 201411 yr Is it just me, or is anyone else thinking after reading this thread that some of us really do need to get out there a bit more? That includes me for spending valuable time reading it, instead of fettling and riding. Ahhhsa is getting dangerously close to a noun that comes readily to mind when picturing fervent pedantic anoraks.
October 17, 201411 yr It is just you...... Someone asked a question and a few more people had a bit of fun with it, if you don't want to participate in the thread just move on
October 17, 201411 yr That reminds me, I've got to get out to mow the lawn... (with my Bunton lawn mower, how do you southerners pronounce that? Bunton? made in Louisville KY)
October 17, 201411 yr Louisville is pronounced Lu-El-Vill by those that live there. Slur the word the better off you are. If you say Louie-Vill they will go out of their way to correct you... Bunton? never heard of that brand but I would pronounce that Bun-Tun but I have one of those silly east coast accents so I am probably not a good judge of annunciation. --Biff
October 17, 201411 yr Thanks Biff, that's mighty friendly of you there son. Don't know if the company still exists, the lawnmower is over 40 years old if I'm not mistaken. A legacy of my late grandfather.
October 17, 201411 yr I think we can choose to pronounce the name as appropriate to the situation. When everything in our riding is like dancing, we can call it B'Ossa Nova. When all goes bad and we are flying over the bars on the way to a face plant, we can say it like comes natural: Oh Sh@#!
October 24, 201411 yr I just tried asking for a c-o-d and chips last night. The lady said its cod ? I bet the cook demanded C-O-D for the meal.
