October 15, 201411 yr Hey all, Recently purchased a 1998 GG TX270, All was good until a friend got a 1996 JTX270 and it felt more powerful than mine, so I wondered if anyone would know why it feels less powerful? Common faults? Things to check/look for? Any help would be great
October 15, 201411 yr Gearing differnt maybe. Or you got low compression or flywheel weight added or his has boysen reeds or differnt timing Edited October 15, 201411 yr by zerorev3rev4
October 15, 201411 yr There are many things that might make it feel more powerful. Some have already been mentioned. In 16 years, someone could have made many changes to the bikes. The bikes had only minor changes from '96 to '98. I suggest comparing the specifics of the two bikes for changes. Compare: Fast or slow throttle tube? Number of teeth on sprockets the same? Carbs the same? Flywheels the same? Compression test differences? Carb jets and adjustments the same? Timing the same? Air filter clean or plugged? Exhaust clean or plugged?
October 15, 201411 yr Author Any advice on a good sprocket setup? Iv stripped and cleaned the carb and reeds thoroughly and set back up to spec Compression feels good starts 1st kick usually New air filter and plug How do you clean the exhaust? How do you adjust the timing? Any guides on how?
October 15, 201411 yr Blocked exhaust +filter (well basicly clean everything) but you allready did. Burn middle mufler and end damper out and replace material. I use a heat torch, and some air from the compressor together, when its hot enough remove the heatsource and only use air. It will burn nice and clean without burning trough the metal. Frontpipe, and middle mufler can be done this way. Need some repainting after probably though. Replace the endmufler material, and it will run probably like never before. Lots of people only think about intake filter, but a 2 stroke also need to be able to breath out. Edited October 15, 201411 yr by crazybond700
October 16, 201411 yr Most people use 10/42 sprockets. There are lots of good videos on GasGas work. Search You tube for Jim Snell Gasgas.
