October 23, 201411 yr Hi, I purchased a gas gas 250 2009 last week! great fun! I've been out on it twice now Although I've had road bikes before I've never done any maintenance on them and I'm looking to take out my carb and blow it out but i don't know where to start? i'm guessing the fuel tank will have to come out? What comes out to get access to carb and in what order? What gets blown out? the jets and thats it? is there just two jets? Ive watched a 30 min video on just the carb alone (that didn't tell me what to blow out or how to get to the carb) on youtube but I'm kind of looking for an idiots guide firstly telling what to take off and which bit to blow out? Any one got any pics or a link to a video? I've tried searching on youtube... This is a job i would like to complete tomorrow so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, jamie
October 23, 201411 yr Try looking for Jim Snell/gas gas on the you tube. You don't say why you want to blow out your carb. Is the bike running ok?
October 23, 201411 yr Airbox needs removed, though you don't have to remove the tank. Open up the carb with the big bolt/screw on the bottom. Be careful to see which way the floats are, then one at a time unscrew the jets, and clean them within an inch of their lives, put everything back in order, then a couple kicks later, the bike should fire up.
October 24, 201411 yr Download this from the Hell Team tech page and read it BEFORE you do anything. Specifically the Dellorto carb manual. October 26, 201411 yr Paul Arnoux, and Dadof2, Thank You for posting those links! I hope many people will sit down and do some reading of those, particularly the Dellorto manuals Arnoux linked to above. I've got them bookmarked, and as soon as our ink supply gets better for our printer, will likely make myself paper copies. I've been riding, racing, and wrenching since 1970, and consider myself to have had a fairly good grasp of how motorcycle carburetors work. Have always had good luck jetting my own Mikunis & Keihins for my 2 & 4 stroke dirt bikes. But I still believe in having as much info as I can get on a subject, especially if/when a problem develops.
