I am thinking of buying an aircooled Fantic and would want to get it road registered on an age related plate. Does anybody know who I could contact to get a dating letter? I am not sure who was the importer and if they are still going?

Hi Doogle, you will need to contact the VMCC for this, they will send you a form to fill out with an explanation of how to proceed. Nick.

DVLA will only except dating certificates from certain clubs/organisations, they usually work off the frame number and match it with lists the club/organisation keep from manufacturers.

As there isn't a specific Fantic one on the list, you might need a little more help with this as the VMCC may not hold information on that bike, model, manufacturer.

An MOT and insurance is needed as well, done on the frame number.

I have registered a 1980 Fantic this year with the aid of a dating letter from Bill Pye, which DVLA accepted.

For me the whole process was very straight forward.

Give Bill Pye a ring as that is the best way to contact him.

You will need form 55A from DVLA.

MOT and insurance on the frame number

The fantic will be exempt from type approval etc. as it is a trials bike which you must state on the form.
