I need to strip the compression side fork on my 2011 Pro 300 in order to sort out a scratch on the leg and replace the seal, I have read as many of the posts on here as I can and have a good idea how to do most of this,however I am unsure about how to remove the top cap from the inner 'cartridge'. I have loosened the cap from the top of the rod inside by holding the square with a spanner and turning the 22mm head on the cap,this slackens it off but after a couple of turns it seems to lock up. i do not want to force it and risk breaking something in case there is something I am not doing correctly. Any help would be appreciated.

I think the couple of turns you undid it was just the spring pre-load adjustment.  Now you've reached the end of that, you have to lean on it a bit more (while holding the lock nut) and it should come undone.

 

When you do it up again, the same will apply.  The first so many turns will be the adjustment, then you need to nip it up.  No need to over-tighten.
