Hi All Advice Needed On New Montesa Forks

Featured Replies

hi i've just bought some uprated springs for my new montesa do i need a special tool to take the fork cap off to replace spring ??????

are they tech forks or Showa?

Showa strip down is in the manual I think which is available PDF if you search forums.

I had a good tip from Munch at M sport for tech fork info as the tech web site  has full strip down info etc

Some of the tech just take a 17mm wrench, I`ll have to look tomorrow.

Checked again, a wrench will work. You do have your manual. The stock spring is not too bad? 17 stone plus?

Cheers will try a regular spanner tried the adjustable as suggested in that not too subtle reply but it started to round off the top cap

Lineaway I'm right at the top of the. Stock springs range maybe a little over if I'm honest lol

A spanner should be fine, they shouldn't be that tight, if the forks are still on the bike while your trying to loosen the top caps make sure you've undone the top yoke bolts first.

Indeed! Very important and often forgotten.

Use a socket not an adjustable, only way to stop the tops from getting rounded off.

The caps only have a 4 sided square section, doubt a standard socket would fit unless you had a special one?

I've always used a regular spanner and never damaged one yet, usually they only get damaged when the yokes haven't been backed off first.

Where did you get your uprated springs from pal? and how much?

I stand corrected, I have never seen fork tops as you describe, take care then.
