Probably a dumb question, but have seen lots on slowing the bike down and debates on gearing.

 

Have only pottered the bike on a few local legal trails so far as been busy with work, etc. I reckon first gear is going to be quick for nadgery sections.

 

So if I go for a 9 tooth front sprocket do I need to take a link out of the chain at the same time? 2016 4RT. Dumb question I know...

    Nope, the 4rt snail cam bolts can be moved to take up or add chain lengths, 9/41/42 is good and you can still use 1st for pretty much everything even biggish hills.
