I took the taco plunge last week when I found this one on local CL.. Seems to have most of the important pieces intact...the m 49 seat in photo did not come with it .will need to remove buddy seat frame and pegs. I cleaned the IRZ carb and it fired right up..top end and clutch are a little noisey.. Plan is to ride it as is this summer and do a frame up "rider resto" this winter.. Can't wait to tear into it tho..

All the main parts appear to be in good condition + the original toolbox, all thats needed for restoration.

The general layout seems to be very like my Model 10. Are these older or younger?

 

What are the differences. I know these questions are daft to you guys but for me "best be a fool for five minutes than an idiot all ones life"!

The model 27 was the next Sherpa on from the model 10. The most significant difference is a completely redesigned engine with a 5 speed gearbox. Engine mounts to frame changed. Not too many were made before being replaced by the model 49 so are a fairly rare model today.

 

The bike looks remarkable original Ignoring the obvious additions to the frame. Nice find I am jealous.

 

I have a friend local to me who has one and it has really awful chrome plated engine covers which are peeling but I think are original.

The first 5 speed Sherpa's looked like the last off the 4 speed body parts The weak point is the clutch cable mount under the case as it is prone the damage on rocks breaking it off IRZ carb flood the engine if the bike fell on it's side I had a similar one but it had the later body work(before the kit campion style)and Amal carb

No questions are daft to me. This is my first Bul..I've always wanted one and have been doing my homework but far for expert..I'm sure I'll learn a lot from this forum..

I did notice that clutch cable looks pretty vulnerable .. I do have the skid plate..

I think the top fork yoke is a later part. This should be the earlier type where the handlebars were clamped by an aluminum clamp held down with upside down U bolts. These top yokes were a known week point and easily broken, so not surprised it has been changed.

Stuart , the outer covers were chromed on some of the 27s as well as the model 26 matador , maybe others as well but theses are the only 2 models i have seen with the remnants of the chrome .The original brochures and owners manuals show the chrome detail as well . You have to ask yourself why though ?

Ive read about the fork clamp upgrade..and chrome covers..glad mine already has newer clamp and no chrome on covers! ..these should polish up nicely.. I'm not going for a concours resto..so not going to be

to worried about beiing to correct....some other "non correct" mods will include fabbed side stand and folding pegs.. Probably plastic fenders.....

It's nice to know that you are going to use it for what it was built for... not leaving in the garage as an "investment". enjoy it. I'm sure you will

Couldn't wait for seat and other parts..( tank sealer, etc.) so I bunjeed on my yammy tank, zipped tied a board for seat and went riding! Amazing the low end this thing has..loving it already..but the stubby footpegs gotta go..who ever designed those thing must've had some tiny feet! I can barely get half a foot on peg..

I wonder if M49/M80 pegs & mounts could work for you also M85 Alpina ,same only longer pegs.

The pegs are short because you didn't want solid pegs catching on the rocks.

Don't know about your rules but in the UK you would have to fit folding pegs in order to compete nowadays.

That makes sense..probably won't be competing but I like folding pegs anyway... I have these from some mx bike..dont recall what..but looks like they will work fine..

Are you sure about this? I have been told this on several occasions but when I studied the ACU handbook a couple of years back I could find no reference to having to have folding foot pegs. I have sold the bike now but used to ride my old M10 with the original solid pegs fitted. 

I never checked the AMCA rules
