April 23, 201610 yr The Airbox fitting is made more awkward by the lug that protrudes into the frame at the lower right hand side of the Airbox, what is this lug for (can't seem to see that it does anything)? Has anyone cut it off to make refit even more easy than standard?
April 23, 201610 yr Author It's still as it was from new it's a 2015, it is part of the exhaust gaurd! Edited April 23, 201610 yr by jfc
April 23, 201610 yr I would leave it alone. That tab helps to keep it in place from your boots tugging on it. Edited April 23, 201610 yr by lineaway
April 23, 201610 yr I agree that thing is pretty annoying. I wouldn't worry of you decide to hack it off. Mine will probably break off at some point while I'm putting the air box back on.
April 24, 201610 yr That piece has always been on the Pro. I`ve installed the air box hundreds of times, never even noticed it much till re-jetting my bike yesterday.
April 25, 201610 yr I also find it annoying. Perhaps cut half of it off to ease reassembly. I thought it might be there for maintenance so that you don't have to screw everything back together before testing.
April 26, 201610 yr It`s there to hold it in place. Without it you could rip it out of place with your boots. It won`t happen the first time, but over a period of time it will start sticking out. If you don`t ride much or very hard go ahead and cut it off. It`s cheap until you break the air box plastics.
October 3, 20169 yr On second Gas Gas now and have again cut the tab off, no issues to report apart from much easier to refit after carb work.
