Who Was The Oldest Rider In This Years Scottish Sdt

Featured Replies

Nigel Birkett?

How many consecutive SSDT's is it now?

Another man marvel and finished 66th overall I think

I imagine a few felt considerably older come Saturday afternoon than they had on Monday morning☺

I too would guess at Nigel in the absence this year of Volta Klecka. I think Walter Luft was late Sixties or perhaps Seventy when he last rode.

1971 was his first year I think, on the 128 Suzuki (I watched him start then while taking out from school, the rider alongside him at the start table asked if he was old enough to have a driving licence) so that's 45 done allowing for the non event in 2001 due to foot and mouth. Think he may be going for the 50.

The last time I rode I was 46 and although I hadn't ridden it for a few years I still finished but I was a tired broken man at the end of it. Its a tough gruelling week for a young man so for anyone a bit older its twice that and don't kid yourself...... the sections are hard. However it is the best trial in the world for so many reasons.

Anyone over the age of 60 who finishes must be nearly superhuman!

Nigel the legend, he seems to have been around forever and is still going strong
