Hey guys, I have a 2003 rev 3 and I'm having issues with the spring that holds the shifter peg on, I can't for the life of me work out how it fits?

I put it on as best I could however after riding the bike tonight, the spring has sprung off and is doing nowt.. Leaving the gear peg in an awkward-gear shifting-pointing towards the rear-position..

Am I doing something stupid here? Damn spring is driving me crazy, how is it supposed to fit?

Should look like this or were the u shape is that might  be straight.to keep the spring in tension,
