Can i switch between the two settings (1 dry and 2 mud) on the fly while the motor is running?

I have and nothing broke.

Can it be done while you are moving in gear?  

Or are you suppose to shut down and then switch?

 

Also, i can not tell much difference between the two, the 2 map seems a bit softer and the 1st is a slight bit more aggressive.
