Beta Evo Pinking

Featured Replies

Hi I have an 11 Evo 290. When using the mapping on the more subtle setting the bike seems to be pinking inthe lower gears. I what can I do?

Already using super unleaded with putoline 2 stroke. It is when coming onto the throttle after low revs.

Was thinking it might be timing as its only when using the mapping...?

Try regular octane fuel to speed up the combustion. What you have may not be usual pinking. At low RPM in a big cylinder with soft / retarded mapping the burn can be slow and incomplete when the next new fuel air charge enters the cylinder, this causes sort of "bonging" and uneven running not unlike pinking. Squish clearance may need checking.

EDIT - If you are running a lean oil mix and your piston / rings / bore is worn you could be getting blowby into the crank case contaminating the new incoming charge. This can cause the similar symptoms

Thanks a lot for the suggestions, will try some 95 next time. Mixture is fine and plug is the correct colour, and bike has loads of compression so don't think it's down to wear!

Could be air leak. A friend's EVO blew out the case gasket below reed housing due to loose case bolt. Of course check timing and carb. Kehins are notorious for blockages in the piddly little bleed cirrcuit behind the slide.
