My 2003 Rev run realy well but it as a lot of compression and it's hard to kick. Is it a bad idea to lower the compression ?

Sounds like the perfect reason for a low compression head.

How would you do it ?

an extra head gasket on a watercooled bike is risky, one more place for a leak to start

As said low compression head only real option

Beta sells thicker base gaskets as well. I have a lower compression head on my '13 300 and it does reduce the starting effort significantly but on the later bikes the compression chamber is a separate piece. I'm not sure this is the case on a 2003.

A thicker base gasket would change the port timming. I would rather go for a thicker head gasket if avalable.

Has someone installed a new piston, rings, done a re-bore?

 

If not then maybe eat some poutin mon ami.

The more poutin I eat, the more difficult it will be to crank it in awkward situation ! ( seriously weight is not the issue, age maybe )

I have tried both extra base and head gaskets on various bikes both to soften the power characteristics and ease starting. The effect on the power tends to be greater than the reduction in kicking effort.  Bearing in mind you often have to start a trials bike in less than ideal positions, a change of bike may be the best option.

Lots of compression = engine in good fettle.

One way to easier kicking is to slowly ease her past top dead centre (piston at top of stroke) and then kick her over smartly.

A lots of beefy adults struggle to kick a decent trials bike over....the short kickstarts dont help.

My SWM has a decompressor which I wouldn't be without now, but modern bikes dont have this feature.
