I have a gas gas 270txt 1997. when you look underneath the bike there is a hole in the bash plate where a bolt is.......... what is the purpose of this? I am not on about the gearbox oil drain bolt which is further back and nearer the side.

I believe that's a crankcase drain, in case you should ever drop the bike and fill it full of water. You can pull that bolt and drain the water out of the crank. I think the 97 was the last one to have one.
