January 21, 200422 yr can you just tape up the vent holes in the seat or are they requires for air intake? - i have fine mesh on them but it just gets clogged up with muck, figured i'd be just as well blocking them off and protecting the intake from crud a bit
January 22, 200422 yr I tape mine from the inside of the fender, it stayed on all season with no effect on performance... Keeps the airbox area very clean when the mud is bad........D keystone cycles
January 22, 200422 yr Dont tape the holes over as it does not allow sufficiant air into the air box, making it feel choked up. The best thing to use is some mesh.
January 23, 200422 yr OK, I'm a liar !!! Tape the holes in the seat and try it, Then you tell me and Mr. jrsunt if it works ,,,,,,,,D We ran a dozen bikes this way for months on end with NO problems or lack of performance of any type.........
January 23, 200422 yr I would think that the benefit of not having all the crud getting into the filter will outweigh the possible lack of breathing
January 24, 200422 yr Have you considered carrying a clean (and oiled) filter in your tool bag? We've been riding in the mud all winter, with fine mesh over the holes in the seat and have not experienced any problems. Why impair the air intake of the best bike in the mud?

February 4, 200422 yr I always blocked the vent holes using fine aluminium mesh, the type used in car body repairs. Most motor spares shops stock it, eg Halfords. I used to tape it on the inside.
