Sorry for a newbie question, but is it possible to reach that adjustment screw (rear compression adjustment) without disassembling the linkage or rear fender parts? I can't even find where is this screw located.

 

It should be just in front of the airbox, at the point where the shock bolts on to the frame. On the earlier bikes, you can get to it by removing the rear mudguard. On the later models, it can be reached by removing the air filter cover. Adjust with a spanner, clockwise to increase damping.

Thanks, I have found it. But still have no idea how to reach it with a spanner. Maybe I have to use a spanner with a flexible head?

It's been fitted back-to-front. You'll need to take it off and turn it 180deg. Then it will be easily accessible in future.

You should be able to undo the top shock mounting bolt and turn the top of the shock through 180 degrees as trapezeartist says. If there’s not enough room, try dropping the swinging arm down until you can rotate the shock, or move the airbox back.

Good point Dabba. You don't have to take it off completely like I said, although I suspect in practice the spring preload will generate too much friction to allow rotating of the top relative to the bottom.

 You can reach it with a long flat blade. Notice your  own picture.

I use a removable hex head turned with a spanner.  Anyway, do not expect a remarkable result.

Anyone had success fitting a showa shock from montesa?

I used the flexible connector with a wrench head and was able to adjust the shock. But it didn't help since it was really about timing as it was mentioned by lineaway
