I have read a number of articles on the history of the Montesa Cota
None of them have made mention of the green models that were around in the late 1970's. 
Does anybody have any info on them?

Are you sure you mean late 70's ? That looks more like early/mid 70's unless they carried on that style for the 125/172 model.

Rear mudguard looks wrong, give it a good bounce and the tire might eat it !

Never seen a green Montesa, was it factory or did someone personalise it or sponsor it, or was it some sort of regional export model (Gasgas went all silver once to separate the U.K. bikes from the grey imports)

Looks like a 172, and if you google search 'cota 172' a green one pops up. THats the only help i can be sorry....

Googling green Montesa seems to indicate this bike may not be unique.

Crazy.  Only green Cotas I was familiar with were the ACM 310s. 

 

There where some rumors about green Montesas but they did not exist,

this photo was taken as an example of 1975 green Montesa:

But this is a film negative used as an dia positive if you look at the badge.

There was a thread ages ago on whether folk buy a trials bike based on it's colour...

Well if that had been in the bike shop in '78 I would've jumped at it, it just looks the part

Well at least i knew what the bike was! You however seemed to be more interested in trying to tell the original poster he didnt know what year the bike was, when in fact he was right and then attempted at some stupid reason for it being green. "Honest thread", yes, but only if we disregard your silly posts

After some digging around apparantly they used the green on some 74s, 172s and the enduro 75/125

Not just green, it seems............I was offered a very faded Gold/Yellow coloured , metal tank under cover 123 cota a little while ago; twas a mini time warp piece, still on its orig Pirelli 20" ft and 17"r tyres.

Stupidly I walked away and didn't buy it................
