How do the Sidi trials boots compare size wise to other brands?

Would I be correct in thinking they come up a little on the smaller side?

I went from a 45 gaerne with thick socks to a 44 sidi with thin socks because the 45 sidis just felt very bulky, outwardly. Id kind of agree with you though and say they are a more snug fit than a 44 gaerne, but it could most likely be because they are a less flexible boot

my Sidi Zero's and Gaerne Balance oiled are both 43's and fit nicely

Same as pauls320 my gaerne and sidi both 43, sidi is a stiffer boot so will initially feel a bit snug and does soften a touch which aids comfort. 

Theres no comparison to actually trying on before you buy. 

What boot would fit a larger calf muscle. Asking for a friend. ? size 45

i think gaernes as mine are always done up tighter on the straps at the top, but i refer my friend to the answer above?

 The Sidi`s are a narrower fit for sure.

I'm size 45 and "ample" calves.

Not Forma boulder. They only just overlap on the calf for me.

The old Alpine Stars were OK on my calves but I haven't tried the current stitched-on-sole Alpine Stars
