Buying a 4rt

Featured Replies

Hi All

Got couple of viewings pending for a Cota 4rt 17 and a Repsol 16. Any tips on what to look out for when buying please or words of wisdom on riding and owning one, especially maintenance?

Thanks in advance

Just the usual stuff really, Headstock bearings can start to feel notchy. The electrics are generally fine and the engine is virtually indestructible. Let it warm up properly then see if it starts easily.

The silencer mounting bracket under the mudguard can get a bit messy if it's been dropped a lot.

Thank you very much.

Motor parts are very expensive so make sure there is nothing wrong with the motor

Thanks very much

Good luck - great bikes and the build quality is phenomenal. Check usual wear & tear as above. And (you would anyway I’m sure) worth checking what the oil looks like both sides - will give you a quick sense of how it’s been maintained. Also worth having a look at the air filter - will also give an idea on maintenance.

Check the rear suspension dog bone bearings for free play... If they aren't regularly cleaned and greased they get rusty and bad leading to needing new bearings and bushes.

Other than that... Great bikes... I love them.
