can anyone please tell me why my 2001 gas gas 280 is over heatting.I have changed the fan, put a new one on. But it is still spitting out of the overflow.

is the fan coming on,is the rad cap screwed down tight?

Also is it actually boiling over,or does water come out soon as engine is running?and is it definatly coming out of the overflow pipe?

Sounds like head gaskets / o rings gone pressurising the system.

Cheap and easy to fix.

Yes the fan is cutting in and it only spits it out after it has been running for a while,and deffantly out of the overflow

Might be good idea to make sure the pump is pumping water round the system.I`m not 100% sure but if you run the engine with radiator cap off,you shoul see the water being pumped roun if the pump is working.If its working,might be a good idiea to check the o`ring.

Like the man said,its a quik and cheap job to replace the o`ring,50p and about half an hour...job done.

Possibly the engine is running to weak, causing the motor to run too hot. This wil cause the coolant to discharge via the overflow rather than boil over.

Having had this happen to a 2000 TXT myself, I found the cause was a partially

blocked petrol tap.

Are you really sure it is overheating?

You top it up to the brim when cold, the coolant when hot will expand and will self level out of the overflow even if the fan is on, this is causing the ''Spitting''!!

Does it loose a lot of coolant?

If it does then you do have a problem, if not then don't worry about it is finding its own level.

Don't be spending money on stripping the engine down if there is nowt wrong

a good idea would be to get a new bike dont you think.

Mine will spit out a few drips if I fill the coolant right up. It seems to like it just below the filler neck to make room for expansion.
