Good evening all. I'm going to change the engine oil on my otter framed B40. Could anyone please give me some advice? Where is the drain plug and how do you get the right oil level ect?

The drain bolt is at the bottom of the down tube, below the outlet pipe. Lay under bike and it's in the middle of the tube, approx 10 mms bolt. I fill both of mine until you can just see oil in the top tube, then run the engine for a few minutes to get all the oil up and check again. I then fill until it's just under the return pipe, but don't worry if you go too high as it just comes out the breather. Cheers

Thank You so much Husky125 I'll give that a go as i can't find any information anywhere. How can you tell if its a genuine Foster Otter?

Mainly things like the sub frame on the original is brazed at the footrest joint and a lot of the others have bolt up sub frames.

A good site is bsaotter.com and if you e mail a picture to Charlie he would be very interested as he is trying to record all known ones.

 I have looked at the photo of your BSA B40 Otter and you have one of the genuine Harry Foster built "Otters" we will be able to put the bike onto the Foster Otter Register... one of now 44...
