June 6, 20233 yr Hi , I have not long acquired a montesa 248 it was rough so have stripped it down and am rebuilding it . So my question is, I have stripped the forks to replace seals and can't find out what oil goes back in , the book says Hidrol 7 ? Tried Google and no direct comparison so please any help would be very grateful.

June 20, 20233 yr Author Only just seen your reply , thanks will look for 7wt oil . Have bigger problem now as stripped forks and the chrome stantion is damaged do you now of any forks for sale, thanks .
July 4, 20233 yr What model forks? You have options, Jitsie sells aluminum stanchions for my bikes and they are highly recommended. The chrome won't be chrome unless it is over a copper layer that is over a layer of zinc or nickel, if you put chrome directly onto steel the steel becomes a sacrificial metal. Single layer of electroplate on steel will be mostly zinc. Edited July 4, 20233 yr by lemur
