  1. Thanks for the encouragement and tip! I am looking forward to seeing the snow go away so I can get some more time on the bike. Bill
  2. Back from North Carolina and the bike worked fine. It did seem to be a bit rich but never had any problem with stalling or stumbling. All of my riding was at about 5 to 30 percent throttle. My friend has an older Gas-Gas which she uses a 70:1 fuel mixture (blend of premium ethanol free and race gas) and I used her fuel. I plan on doing some jetting this summer and will try to remember posting an update with the results. I plan on using 80:1 when I start messing with the jetting. Bill
  3. TRIP REPORT: We got back home from the Ryan Young class in Shelby, NC. The class was excellent, unfortunately I suck as a trials rider. This was the first time on a trials bike in 30 years and back then my TY175 had a really cool thing called a "seat" mounted on top of it. The class was a 2 day event which I did about 30% of on the first day and about 15% of on the second day. The rest of the time I went off to a nearby field and practiced some very basic moves and took a lot of breaks. My legs are still aching and my feet are not very happy. Long story short a trials bike is no street bike and demands a good level of physical condition which is an area I am lacking in. Ryan is a excellent teacher with a way of wording his lessons that make it very easy to understand. I would recommend his class to anyone! The event was hosted at Tom's home he is of the local club members. He and his grandson Jake made everyone feel at home and made the trip even more enjoyable, I cant say enough good things about them and also about Jim, who is the local member that organized the event. If you get the opportunity to ride in one of the local events in this area be assured you will meet some really great people. Bill
  4. Thanks for the reply COPEMECH. I am going to let it be till I can order up some jets and will use premium with ethanol at 80:1 The Ryan Young school this weekend will be my first ride on a trials bike in 30 years. From what I have read on the 2.9 it is probably a good thing that the jetting is a bit on the rich side to soften up the power. I will post an update on how it ran when I get back from North Carolina. Bill
  5. Hi I just installed a V-Force reed block on my 2001 2.9 (recently purchased the bike second hand). The old reed stock reed block had Boysens in it, the smaller petals were slightly stuck open. While I had the carb off I blew out all of the jets and checked the sizes. The bikes starts muck better now. The main is a 135 and the pilot is a 43. Searching the forums about jetting these seems quite large. Has anyone used this size jets to compensate for 10% alcohol required in pump gas? I am planning on running 80:1 oil ratio. Until I can get some smaller jets I could drop the ratio down to 50:1 or so to lean it out a bit. We just had an ice storm and 10 inches of snow so riding it for testing is not an option. I am leaving for North Carolina on Thursday to do the Ryan school and would like to try and have it set up as good as possible. I have not yet had a chance to ride the bike since I purchased it and can not comment on how it performed before I serviced it. Thanks, Bill

    Timing Peg

I was planning to use a drill bit or an allen wrench to set the timing on mine, which ever fits snuggly through the alignment holes. I have not taken it apart yet to see if the peg needs to be stepped. Bill
  7. One other thing to mention. Once upon a time in the days of my youth, I had consumed a few to many pints before mixing up my fuel and added a quite bit too much oil. The results were similar to the problem you are having. Bill
  8. Might want to try to start the bike up then shut off the petcock and run it out of fuel. Then turn the petcock back on and restart it. The reason for this is some times a piece of debris can wedge between the needle and seat allowing the bowl to over fill making it rich. When you run it out of fuel the needle goes full open and the rush of fuel can sometimes clean the debris out. I have had luck with this a couple of times. It could also be a bad float. Good luck, Bill
  9. If it runs backwards that would normally be having the timing advanced way to far. If this just started happening after you reset it the keyway may have fallen off during installation of the flywheel and it positioned itself even farther advanced or you moved the plate in the wrong direction. If all checks out OK with the timing the problem is most likely in the CDI box or stator. Too much advance will also make it very hard to kick start. Good luck, Bill
  10. Changing the date for the last and final time! We just signed up for the Ryan Young School in February. So it's off to North Carolina we go. I greatly appreciate the invitations from everyone and am looking forward to making a trip on a later date down to OK and AR. The research I have done on the locations everyone has recommended makes it a necessary trip. Thank you very much, Bill
  11. I love BBQ if the weather is looking best for AR on our new departure date (leaving MPLS on JAN 13th) I will definitely check it out. Thanks for the warning on Keenan leading people astray. If I sense trouble coming I will veer of course and head directly to IMAJERK, hopefully the riding is somewhat safe inside the restaurant! Bill
  12. UPDATE: Our trip is being delayed till the middle of January. We are both self employed and were both booking up work pretty heavy for December. I will update again when I have an exact date. Bill
  13. Hi everybody, thanks for the info!!!! Looking forward to getting the new bike out. OK is looking like a great place to ride with multiple locations. Are there any instructors in the area for hire? As I do not have a clue what to do with my new bike. TTC is looking good in that respect. Weather is still going to be the determining factor on this trip. Thanks, Bill
  14. I live in the western Minneapolis area. I have not ridden a trials bike in 30 years so, I can't say I ride it anywhere. This is a maiden voyage for the bike. My friend does some of the UMTA events. I will probably give that a shot next season.
  15. Wow thanks for the replies! I'll do some research on the sites mentioned. And let you know closer to leaving time if we will be heading that way. TTC is on the top of our list but the trip is weather dependent. Thanks, Bill
