General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

As some of you know , I've been searching for a cyl. head to surge tank coolant hose for my 97 section for what seems forever ... Now after measuring the fittings I see I can make the hose out of small straight pieces of hose and some elbows ... My only worry is will I run into a corrosion issue between the Magnesium case's and copper fittings ? Or should I use some temperature / pressure suitable high quality pvc fittings ? I'm wondering about dissimilar metals reacting to each other . Does anybody have any insight ? Glenn

The definition of 'footing' includes when a rider benefits from any part of his body leaning on an obstacle without stopping the progress of the machine. Q1. What if part of the machine (eg. handlebar) 'leans' on an obstacle - is this ok? Q2. What if the machine stops - ie. can a rider stop and lean against a tree for a breather (engine running & both hands on bars) without suffering a penalty now that the stop & balance rule has been changed or have I missed something. Regarding a previous posting about limits of the section, the rule states the machine must stay within the intended limits of the section. This of course is open to differences of opinion but …

You are briefed by the CoC before the trial. He/she informs you of the rules and then instructs you that the riders are not allowed to walk the section or have minders in the section as they (the riders) had checked them the day before. Your section . - Large rocks to jump up on Lap 1 day 1.. No problem the rider completes the section without any mishaps. Lap 2 day 1. The section has altered a little and the rider asks if he can have a minder in. You follow the instructions of the CoC and refuse his request. Rider asks for a 5. You mark his card with a 5. Lap 1 Day 2 – The rider again asks for a minder, you again refuse. This time he has a big off. Breaks his leg. L…

Still trying to catch up with everything that's changed since I was last riding! I have a question about tyres. My Fantic 309 has tubeless tyres front and back. Having read the various threads about the best tyre etc and looked at various web sites selling tyres. I have seen rear tubeless and tube type tyres and front tube type tyres but no tubeless. Have front tubeless tyres fallen out of favor, are they not available anymore?

All being well I'm gonna change my bike shortly and just want a quick heads up on what to avoid, currently got a Gasser and like it, mates got a Mont 315 and its nice but a little heavier so I kinda know what they're about (bullet proof?? lol) so any advice on what years or problems the following are prone to? Budgets probably around £1200 ish Beta Rev 3 - stators I know about - any years to sidestep? Sherco - don't know much about but they look nice!! Scorpa - Anything with the Yam engine is good as far as I know Gas Gas, early pro's were problems I think?? I'm a crap rider so the performance side of it doesn't bother me, I'll learn to adapt I'm sure, just don't wa…

Hi Everyone, I used to ride trials as a youth back in the 80's, had a Fantic 200 back then with the 156cc engine. Been wanting to get back into trials and been looking around at bikes. Have seen a nice Beta Evo 300 4T that is fairly local to me but I'm concerned it maybe a little over powered for me getting back into the sport. Size wise I'm about 5'7 tall and weigh about 12 stone. I'm wondering if I would be better of with a smaller engined machine, even a 125cc as some of the lads in the local club do amazing rides on 125's. I know the 4T will be more lazy than say a 300cc 2T and coming from the south coast where mud rules the lazy 4T on the face of it seems ideal but …

Hi sorry if i have posted this in the wrong forum but i have looked for a while and couldnt see one that wasnt a few years old! am suprised at that. My twinshock montesa isnt as close to being used as i thought so the boss (mrs) says i can get something else to use in the mean time. i am brand new to off road riding and trials. the bikes i have been looking at are montesa 315s and gas gas txt pros and looking at a 250 from around 2002 onwards. both can be picked up for around 800 - 1300 which is perfect. both of these will be plenty enough for me but mechanically wise which is better. am not afraid to do my own work. also is there anything in particular i should be look…

Hi,I would like to change the coolant in my bike and was going to use car antifreeze, I know you should avoid Silica based products but some say they have Organic products in them also.Any advice as to whats best I didn't want to buy the proper motorcycle antifreeze as I think its the same as the car stuff but twice the price. Regards Andy.

  15. I am interested in getting a 125, currently have a 250, I would like any comments on any adults that ride 125's and what they think. My main reason is that I feel the 125 that I rode was much easier to handle and also gripped much better than my 250...

Just on the subject of Ossa/Gas Gas tangled financial affairs, anyone have any news on the situation? i know GG is shot, but regarding Ossa. Seems a shame to have this marque go down so soon after manufacturing a revolutionary bike. Checked out TRS, looks very nice, but bit staid and really old hat. (even Del orto carb) Vertigo looks good and i guess will be, but not quite a game changer, mainly Fi is the difference, and the lattice type frame. Think will sell very well though, especially with the personnel developing the bike.

  18. I have noticed a lot of European members on this site (inclusive or exclusive of the UK), and it´d be nice to have an outlet to discuss mainland events and part sources. Most Trial riders that I have spoken to here in Spain have a good level of English (and of course we can forgive spelling mistakes), and since this is a useful site I was wondering if there might be a glimmer of a possibility at the very least. I have checked todotrial.com etc etc., and it doesn´t compare (though the future events section is very good). Just my 10 cents, as you say.
